Annual and Seasonal Activities
Advent has several large programs that allow parishioners opportunities to give their time for the benefit of others. Silent Auction: The annual Silent Auction is the biggest fundraiser in support of Advent Day School. The ticketed event offers an evening of dinner and drinks with the opportunity to sponsor the event, donate services or goods, or bid on dozens of donated items. The event regularly raises in excess of $25,000, which is used for technology updates, renovations, and other improvements to the Day School. Note: The Silent Auction fundraiser is scheduled for October 12, 2024. Bowls & Brews: This January chili competition brings together chili lovers and chili cooks from within and beyond our parish to support Advent and its ministries. Guests can enjoy homemade chili, hot cornbread, non-alcoholic beverages, desserts, children’s activities and live music, with a variety of cold beer available for purchase. The competition includes a special “Episcopepper” category for the best chili entry by one of our sister churches. A large crew of Advent volunteers makes this popular event possible. Breakfast with Saint Nicholas: This event was new in 2018, with the goal of teaching more about the gift-giving of the historical Saint Nicholas. Advent parishioners served breakfast, provided music, and arranged for a surprise visit by St. Nick. Volunteer Opportunity at ECHO
If one of your New Year Resolutions was to offer your gift of volunteering to one of the many great organizations in town, here is a possibility. ECHO (Emergency Care Help Organization) often needs help at their office in the food pantry and other areas. The office is convenient to the church at 548 E. Bradford Rd and your help would be very appreciated by Freddy, the Board and staff. All you need to do is go to their website at echotlh.org, using the dropdowns push “volunteer” where you will read information and can fill out a volunteer form by pushing “volunteer application”. You will see where to email it to. Falone Hilaire or another staff person will contact you in a few days. You can then see where all of our Chili Sunday donations join multiple other donations of food items to help those that need a helping hand. |
